Like the sea after a storm...

Still rainy here--I guess we're setting records about the number of rainy days in a row, which I really don't understand how they are calculating that since I think it rains pretty much every day here on some part of the island...

The rains have shifted and are now "coming from" over these mountains as opposed from the "Kona" winds (from the south) that head straight up the valley towards these mountains.

Whatever--at least the sun has been shining through the rain with some blue skies the past two days. This is the view from my neighborhood, basically looking straight up Manoa Valley.

I think I've hiked on the very right-most part of the ridge right where green slope meets the edge of the photo. I turned around about there because I was getting queasy thinking about falling off the side of the mountain..

Lately, my hiking has been just simply going up to Manoa Falls and back (about an hourround trip walk from my house). Sometimes, I'll carry a backpack of gravel from the pile at the trailhead and empty it at a particularly muddy section that has yet to be graveled by the group of volunteers who restore the trail.

Here is the falls (lower right above the roof) from my walk yesterday to the Manoa Library.

For those of you who don't know, my house is located in a neighborhood on the hillside to the left of the falls which is not pictured here.

On my walk, I felt very touristy with my backpack and camera out. I wanted to wear a sign that said, "No, really. I LIVE here!" But, it didn't stop me from taking a picture of this cute little pineapple growing in someone's yard. It was about 2 inches tall! Everybody in the house say, "Aaaaaawwwwwww!"

Hope you all rememeber to set your clocks forward--"Spring ahead, Fall back" don't you know. As a reminder, we are not participating in your stinky day light saving time. So now, we are 3 hours behind you (yes, if it's 6am your time, don't be waking me up at 3am... but if I stay up until 5am on Saturday as has been known to happen when I'm more masochistic, I might be calling you early risers on Saunday morning!)

Look at you Ms. Frequent Blogger. Love the pineapple. And glad to hear the trails are going to be okay, thanks to your restoration. Probably a good workout with all that gravel weight, too!

I took a walk tonight through suburbia to the starbucks. The tea was good but would rather walk up a beautiful mountain with pineapple views. Oh well. We had about 2 hours of clear weather here today, maybe the rain will stop eventually. Here's to sunshine!

I have the same problem when I walk around Geneva with a camera. With all the tourists starting to stir after our very long winter, I need a sign too...
